THE “NEW” PROSTATE CANCER INFOLINK HAS APPOINTED A
WORLD-CLASS SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD

The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink, a fast-growing, patient-oriented health-care information and education web service, is honored to announce the appointment of a group of leading experts on the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer to its Scientific Advisory Board, under the leadership of Judd Moul, MD, professor and chief of the Division of Urologic Surgery and the Duke Prostate Center, Duke University Health System.

“Since we started this service in March 2008,” said Arnon Krongrad, MD, a co-founder of The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink, “We had set a goal of developing online services that would attract the interest and attention of leading experts in the field. We are delighted that this group of individuals has agreed to assist and work with us, and we are now further encouraged to ensure that the services we offer provide the very greatest opportunities and benefits for prostate cancer patients, their caregivers, their families, and the patient advocacy community.”

The members include respected experts in such fields as uropathology, surgery, radiotherapy, oncology, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, psychology, complementary and alternative therapy, and clinical outcomes, all as applied to the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer.

“The expansion of access to the Internet, and the increasing scope of the Web to offer educational and informational services for consumers, is revolutionizing patients’ ability to participate knowledgeably in their health care,” stated Dr. Moul. “The ‘New’ Prostate Cancer InfoLink has the potential to take patient information about prostate cancer to a new level. I look forward not only to supporting the development of this and similar resources for patients, but also to studying the effects that such services have on what and how patients are able to learn and participate in their care. This is as much an opportunity for me and my colleagues to learn how to inform and educate our patients as it is for those patients to learn about their disorders.”

The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink includes two components:

  • The primary web service (at http://prostatecancerinfolink.net ), which includes a news and opinion blog, an extensive and expanding series of articles on specific aspects that address risk for, prevention of, and diagnosis and management of prostate cancer, and a mentoring service through which people can seek answers to their specific questions
  • A “social network” (at http://prostatecancerinfolink.ning.com), where patients, family members, health care professionals, and others can gather on line to learn from and support each other in addressing all the effects of this disorder

The “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink and the “New” Prostate Cancer InfoLink Social Network are not-for-profit productions of The Krongrad Institute for Minimally Invasive Prostate Surgery and Vox Medica, Inc. The service first “went live” on March 20, 2008.
