Common Questions: The Patient

How long will I have a catheter after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy?

There is no real science behind the question of when it's best to remove the catheter after prostate cancer surgery. We all grew up with leaving it in for 3 weeks. But experience shows that there is no good reason for this duration. Still, there is a balance, and early removal can be associated with urinary retention. Most patients have the catheter for approximately ten days after laparoscopic radical prostatectomy.
