What is benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH)? Is it the same as an enlarged prostate?

Prostate size increases as men age in a condition known technically as benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) -- the same as an "enlarged prostate."

While it can coexist with prostate cancer, benign prostate hyperplasia is a separate disease that can be symptomatic. Among the possible symptoms of an enlarged prostate are restricted urine flow (arrow), difficulty urination, slow urinary stream, urgent urination, frequency urination, night time urination, sensation of inability to empty the bladder, and so on.
