Is there pain with laparoscopic radical prostatectomy?

Yes. However, the profound reduction in pain is one of the primary benefits of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. On average, in the first 24 hours after the laparoscopic radical prostatectomy our patients take two Tylenols.

The virtual elimination of narcotic medications reduces side effects such as lethargy, constipation, and dizziness. The reduction of pain also permits most patients to get on their feet within hours of prostate cancer surgery and to leave the hospital in approximately 16 hours. Some patients have been back to work within 48 hours of surgery.
