Is there a risk of impotence after prostate cancer treatment with LRP?

Yes. There may be erectile dysfunction, impotence after prostate cancer treatment, with LRP. To be clear, erectile dysfunction refers to loss of physical response to erotic stimuli, but not to loss of orgasm or sensation. Orgasm may be maintained even in the absence of erections that may be associated with laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. At the same time, laparoscopic radical prostatectomy causes elimination of ejaculation no matter the status of erections and orgasm; loss of ejaculation reflects the loss of the prostate and seminal vesicles. The likelihood of erectile dysfunction with any prostate cancer treatment varies as a function of: age, baseline function, illness (diabetes), smoking history, obesity, fatigue, depression, medications, endocrine status, and other variables.
