Common Questions: The Procedure

Can there be other problems after prostate surgery?

There can be various problems after prostate surgery, many of which were reviewed above. These are not specific to laparoscopic prostate surgery but can be seen also with open prostate cancer surgery.

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is also associated with the risk of injury to adjacent organs such as the rectum and ureters.

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy can be associated with pain beyond the immediate operative period, most commonly in the perineum (area between scrotum and anus).

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy can also be associated with bladder neck contracture, a form of scarring at the suture line; this can require an incision to correct.
